Dr. Brett E. Steinwand attended the University of Miami, earning his Bachelor's Degree of Biology, with a minor in Chemistry in 1991. His honors and awards included; a Florida Academic Scholarship, an Isaac B. Singer Scholarship, a National Merit Scholarship, a Flex-Bon Paint Scholarship (1st Place art show), the President's and Provost's Honor Roll (4.0 grade point average, all semesters), the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, the Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Society, and he was a Master Tutor of Physics, Calculus, and Biology.
He attended Miami's School of Medicine, graduating in 1995 with honors and awards, including the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and the Medical Trustee Scholarship. His post-graduate training included an internal medicine internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center of Greater Miami, his Ophthalmology residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. In addition, Dr. Steinwand received one year of formal academic training in LASIK at Vanderbilt, where he was chosen by the faculty to be Chief Resident in 1998 and 1999, and he was the Coordinator of the Basic and Clinical Science Review Course there.
In 1999, Dr. Steinwand became affiliated with Monnett Eye & Surgery Center in Sebastian, Florida.
Dr. Steinwand is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Steinwand also continues to be on the cutting edge of all new technologies. He is certified for CK (Conductive Keratoplasty), and for CustomCornea® LASIK utilizing Wavefront Technology through the Excimer Laser. In addition to refractive surgery, Dr. Steinwand's surgical expertise includes small incision cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, corneal transplantation, and retinal laser procedures.
His Professional Society memberships include the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Steinwand has conducted an extensive array of presentations at Seminars and Symposiums throughout the country, including ,"The effect of LASIK on Intraocular Pressure Measurements," at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Symposium on Cataract, IOL, and Refractive Surgery in San Diego, California in 1998.
He has also been involved in a wide variety of research projects, including, "The effect of LASIK on Intraocular Pressure Measurements," which was published in The British Journal of Ophthalmology in 1999.
Dr. Steinwand is married with one son and has been a 28 year Florida resident.
