IMAGINE, LIFE WITHOUT GLASSES!!

FOR BOTH DISTANCE AND NEAR
AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN!!!

It is FINALLY POSSIBLE for:
VIRTUALLY EVERY ADULT!! *
AT VIRTUALLY ANY AGE!! *

We call this new procedure "RECLAIM"--that stands for "Reduce or Eliminate Corrective Lenses with Accommodative Implants".  While we actually perform all the various procedures that claim to accomplish this-such as LASIK and CK, there is really only one way for those over 40 to make BOTH EYES perform equally well for distance as well as midrange and near.  That procedure involves utilizing REVOLUTIONARY NEW INTRAOCULAR LENS (IOL) TECHNOLOGY, which allows the new lens to provide clear vision not for just distance or just for near,  but for BOTH DISTANCE AND NEAR, and EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN as well.

As always the devil is in the details--so here they are.  The eye is virtually a camera with 2 lenses-the outer lens called the cornea, and the internal lens called the human lens, which is sort of a small “saran-wrap” covered bag of flexible jello about the size of an aspirin.   Hypothetically, let's say the cornea has a power of 40, and the lens has a power of 20, so that when the eye is at rest the combined power of 60 focuses distant objects clearly on the retina, and the patient needs no distance glasses.   Reading requires a power of about 63 to 64, so when we look at something near, a muscle in the eye contracts causing the human lens to change and become thicker and more powerful--let's say 24 power now (40 + 24 = 64), and this allows the eye to focus clearly on the near object.  The human lens, can actually change up to an extra 10 power when we are very young, but the jello starts hardening slowly starting in our teens, so that by the time we reach 40 it may only be able to increase by only 1 or 2 power.  Since it takes an extra 3 or 4 power (40 + 20 + 4) to read, this eye can no longer read with out the help of reading glasses to provide the extra power the stiff lens con no longer provide--thus comes the age of reading glasses, or "PRESBYOPIA".

LASIK can certainly correct distance vision for someone whose eye power is over or under 60 by either adding or removing power to the cornea leaving the patient with a total eye power of 60, providing excellent glasses-free distance vision. But, in patients old enough that the lens is too inflexible to provide the extra 3-4 power needed for near.  LASIK can only provide clear vision for distance, and the patient will require glasses for reading either immediately or within a few short months or years, as the lens continues to harden.

Traditional "Standard" IOL's have been around for some 30 + years and have an unprecedented safety record, having been placed in millions of eyes throughout the world during cataract surgery.  Since the correct IOL power is calculated for each eye so that when it's power is combined with the cornea power the eye power will be hypothetical "perfect" 60,  we  have for many years been able to correct a cataract patient’s eye for distance at the time of cataract surgery.  BUT, the patient will forever have to wear reading glasses since the eye has no capacity to further increase its overall power to "64" in order read.  That's where the  "REVOLUTIONARY" technology of the new "PREMIUM IOL'S" comes in.   Not only do they provide the correct distance power for the eye, but they also have the additional power for near and mid range vision built into them--VOILA! more NATURAL vision for BOTH EYES that is clear for distance, near , and everything in between.  No more of the compromises of monovision, CK, and the like such as trouble with depth perception, severe night glare from the “near” eye, and trying to tolerate one eye always being blurry while only one eye is clear at any given distance.

So keeping in mind not only the safety record of IOL's, but also the fact that cataract surgery is THE SAFEST AND MOST FREQUENTLY PERFORMED PROCEDURE IN MEDICINE, I can tell you this is not a "maybe" technology--They REALLY WORK, and I have put them in my best friend, my sisters, and over 500 hundred happy patients.  These are the IOL's I would put in my parents if I could.  But I did their surgeries over a decade ago when "PREMIUM IOL'S" were not available.  So they received “STANDARD’IOL’s—with which they both see clearly, but both require bifocals to do so.  Furthermore, they can’t have the new implant now because once implants are in place for some time, the eye holds them tightly, and exchange is not advisable.  Which means that your upcoming cataract or elective lens replacement surgery is your "ONCE IN A LIFETIME" CHANCE TO BECOME IMDEPENDENT OF GLASSES.  We can’t go back later and put the new ones in!

What if you don't yet have cataracts?  No problem--every week we perform “PREMIUM IOL" surgery on patients as young as their twenties, who are candidates merely because they can no longer tolerate being unable to read without glasses.  The surgical procedure is still the same no matter what the age—simply cataract surgery, but instead of removing a hard  yellow/amber  human lens, we simply remove a softer lens that is not yet hard and cloudy enough to be a cataract, but has hardened enough so that it can't flex adequately to provide the extra power needed for reading.   And keep in mind that Dr Monnett is an expert in cataract surgery, having performed over 15000 procedures in his 24+ years of practice, as well as having been certified specifically for small incision cataract surgery by the AMERICAN BOARD of EYE SURGEONS--a certification based upon surgical skill and outcomes rather than book knowledge.  Oh, and we have the book knowledge one too from The American Board of Ophthalmology.
