Why Struggle With Reading Glasses? By Kerry Firth, Publisher, Treasure Coast Almanac based in Vero Beach, Florida Reprinted from the Winter, 2004 Edition of The Treasure Coast Almanac
"I was dining at a local restaurant and nonchalantly read the menu," then I exclaimed out loud, "I just read the menu without my glasses!" People turned and stared as I blurted out that only 24 hours earlier I had corrective eye surgery. They nodded politely and went back to eating their meals.
Perhaps my exuberance had been lost on the strangers, but I feel compelled to share my miraculous experience with everyone. Ever since I hit those wonderful mid-forties I've been forced to pull out my reading glasses to read the small print. It's not easy to dig in your purse, pull out the bifocals, take the sunglasses off your head, put those away, read the document, and then do the same routine in reverse. The reading glass shuffle is even more difficult at 70 miles an hour on the freeway!
So when I heard about CK (Conductive Keratoplasty) surgery – a non-laser vision procedure for people over 40 – I had to try it! CK uses the controlled release of radiofrequency (RF) energy, instead of a laser, to reshape the cornea. I was told they would apply sixteen spots of radiofrequency and that the whole procedure would take less than 5 minutes!
The rest of the story:
My surgery was scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
5:30 p.m.- I arrived at MONNETT LASER VISION CENTER and was greeted by a staff of nurses that made me feel right at home as they dropped numbing drops in my eye and dressed me in a designer paper hair cap and booties.
6:00 p.m.- I was taken to the operating room and greeted by Dr. Monnett. Once on the table, he pulled a device over my eye and asked me to look at the blinking red light. A clamp painlessly held my eyelid open. As he placed a hair-thin probe on my eye, he said I would feel pressure and the red light would move. "Do not follow the light," he said. I felt no pressure at all and watching the red light move reminded me of a touch pad exhibit at Fantasia in Epcot, where colors diffuse and regain original shape!
6:06 p.m.- We were done! My vision was blurry from the procedure, but I was perfectly capable of walking to an adjoining room.
6:18 p.m.- Dr. Monnett examined my eyes, handed me a reading chart and asked if I could read the third line from the bottom? Surprise! "I could read the VERY BOTTOM LINE of fine print!"
6:30 p.m.- I walked out of the office and into my new life without glasses!
Trust me on this one. If you want to free your life from the hassle of reading glasses – call MONNETT Eye & Surgery Center at (772)-589-8111, or MONNETT Laser Vision Center at (321)-953-1444.
